Nick Comley graduated with an Honours degree in Government from BCU in 1989. He started work with Majestic Wine PLC in 1989 and rose to the position of Regional Manager before leaving in 1999 to become Retail Director for Pages Catering in London.
Having moved to rural Shropshire in 2001 he retrained as a Residential Social Worker and Community Drugs and Alcohol Worker before working for Mind as a Senior Manager of Housing and Community Support Services.
In 2008 he achieved an NVQ 7 Executive Diploma in Management with the Chartered Management Institute and PTTLs qualification. Soon after, he took up a role with Community First, a rural community council to support social and community enterprises across Herefordshire and Worcestershire.
Nick has also held senior management, teaching and Trustee roles with Beacon Centre for the Blind, the RNC and Lymphcare UK CIC.
Since 2020 he has worked with the Plunkett Foundation and The Hive Co-operative Development with community owned co-operatives and rural businesses.
As a PTTLS qualified teacher, Nick took up a role with the RNC in Hereford as a Teacher of Business. In this role he worked alongside the social enterprise team and students.
Achieving a Level 2 VIPP qualification in Sight Loss Awareness and Assistive Technology, he gained many skills, insights and appreciation of the barriers faced by many people with sight loss and the potential for social enterprise to help overcome them and realise their personal goals and aspirations.
At the centre of his practice is the belief that communities are amazing and can create wonderful and accountable organisations and enterprises that deliver social and economic value and impact.
He is an SROI Network accredited Social Return on Investment and Hive CSU/Baker Brown Associates accredited Community Shares practitioner and Plunkett Foundation adviser.
